The 2013 Brigantine Beach Polar Bear Plunge

The annual Brigantine Beach Polar Bear Plunge will take place in front of the Laguna Grill and Rum Bar on 14th Street South starting at 11:00 a.m. on January 1st.  This year’s event is expected to be the biggest and best yet!  Participants and spectators will get the opportunity to see first hand that Brigantine’s beaches are still in pristine condition after Superstorm Sandy rolled through in October.

Festivities start 11 a.m., with the plunge at noon.  If you’re going in the water be prepared to freeze your patootie off because the weather forecast is predicted to be around 42 degrees.  The ocean temperature will be around 47 degrees.  The warm up begins at the after party immediately following the plunge at Laguna Grill and Rum Bar with special food and drink prices.  The master of ceremonies for the swim will be Jim Craine, Atlantic City’s singing lifeguard.  Live music at the after party will be provided by the fabulous Mott’s Creek Pickers.  There will also be a costume contest with prizes for the best costumes.

Major sponsors of the event include National Van Lines, Laguna Grill and Rum Bar, and local veterans and civic organizations.  Since the Plunge was started, over $100,000 have been given to Fisher House, which supports wounded military and their families.

Tee shirts, hooded sweatshirts and baseball caps for the 2013 plunge, featuring Superstorm Sandy, are now available and expected to sell fast.  They can be purchased Saturdays and Sundays, Dec. 15-30, in front of Ace Hardware in Brigantine.
